Collection's emphasis is on the Adirondacks and military encounters of the French and Indian War, the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Civil War, and World War I; other areas include adjacent areas of Vermont and Canada, Albany, Schenectady, Lake Champlain, Fort Ticonderoga, local villages, highways, railroads, the American West, the Hudson River, Indian lands, and the counties of Warren, Essex, and Washington. Other maps of note include aerial surveys of Lake George, 1957-1958, and land in the estate of H.B. Pierrepont in Lewis County, 1797-1805, and in St. Lawrence and Franklin Counties, 1806.

Hezekiah Beers Pierrepont (1790-1838) established a prosperous mercantile firm engaged in international trade and commerce. After dissolving the firm, he turned to the acquisition and exploitation of land, buying up large tracts of land, one of which became most of Brooklyn Heights and Boerum Hill in New York City.
